What Currimundi does to paint
Currimundi sits between Lake Currimundi and the beach, so cars here get salt air from one side and a lot of wildlife from the other. Flying-fox droppings are the problem we get asked about most. They're acidic, they land overnight and by mid-afternoon the sun has baked them onto the clear coat. Leave them a few days and they etch.
Grey-headed flying-foxes are protected under Queensland and federal law (Sunshine Coast Council), so moving them isn't an option. Protecting the car is. A ceramic coating gives you a slick, sacrificial layer that droppings struggle to bond to, which buys you time to rinse them off.
Isaac's Currimundi routine
- Rinse droppings off the same morning, with plenty of water, before you touch them.
- Never scrub a dry dropping. Soak it, then lift it.
- Rinse salt off every week or two if you're close to the beach end of town.
- If you park on the street under trees, a car cover isn't the answer: covers scuff paint. A coating plus quick rinses is.
